The 2026 Slovak Rapid Chess Championship has come to a close in Prešov, and the tournament has already announced its winners. After two days of exciting matches, quality games and battles until the last round, the participants met the new Slovak Rapid Chess Champion - Miroslava Ondrušová and Šimon Rybka.

The event, which took place at the Hotel Lineas, attracted players from all over Slovakia to the metropolis of Šariš – from experienced representatives to young chess talents. After a long time, a top chess event of national importance took place in eastern Slovakia, which was appreciated by both players and organizers.

Throughout the tournament, there was no shortage of dramatic moments, surprising results, or close games. The final standings were often decided by details, and every point was of great value.

The only player who managed to get 8 points and dominate the entire tournament is the aforementioned Slovak champion Šimon Rybka. The tournament of a lifetime was also played by player Dominik Hitka, who got 7 points. We are highlighting this precisely because as a Junior under 18 and with a rating of up to 2000, he managed to cope with strong and more experienced competition and placed 4th in the main category in MSR Rapid chess. Player Tomáš Brnušák placed 5th and the main category is closed by a local player from the club TJ Slávia PU Prešov Oliver Kríž.

A rarity of the Rapid chess tournament was the exciting decision-making between the players, as up to 9 players scored 7 points. The difference between the players was in the auxiliary rating.

In addition to the prestigious title, the new Slovak champions also won the right to represent Slovakia at the European and World Championships. The tournament also confirmed the growing quality of Slovak chess and showed a number of talented young players who were definitely not lost in the strong competition.

The excellent atmosphere of the event was also enhanced by the participation of children and youth, numerous accompanying conversations between players, and the support of chess fans directly in the playing hall.

The organizers evaluate the event very positively and believe that similar important chess tournaments will have their place in Prešov in the future. Eastern Slovakia has once again shown that it can organize a quality chess event at a high level.

However, the Slovak Championship is not over yet - players can look forward to the continuation of blitz chess, where more exciting duels and attractive games are expected.
