Prešov once again confirmed during the weekend that chess has a strong place in eastern Slovakia. After the Slovak Rapid Chess Championship, an even more adrenaline-pumping discipline came into play – blitz chess. And it was this discipline that brought a lot of emotions, unexpected twists and games in which seconds were the deciding factor in the Hotel Lineas. The players who did the best were Mykola Domanskiy and Alena Mrvová, who became the new Slovak blitz chess champions.

Blitz chess is one of the most attractive formats ever. Throughout the tournament, players had to combine creativity, accuracy and quick decision-making under enormous time pressure. The playing hall was full of dramatic time constraints, instant turnarounds and tension until the last round. After a series of dynamic duels, Slovakia recognized a new champion of Slovakia in blitz chess. In addition to prestigious titles, the winners also received valuable sporting recognition after an exceptionally demanding tournament and the right to represent Slovakia at the European and World Championships.

Players from all over Slovakia arrived in Prešov - from experienced representatives to young talents who were not afraid to fight against the favorites. It was the youth who once again showed that Slovak chess has a strong upcoming generation, and several young players were able to keep up with much more experienced opponents.

The winner of the blitz chess tournament was Mykola Domanskiy, who won the championship after a very good performance and earned 11 points. He was closely followed by Jerguš Pecháč, who could have dramatized the fight for the Slovak champion in the last round, but after losing he became the vice-champion with 10 points. A very successful tournament was also enjoyed by 15-year-old Casey Ryan Mészáros, who drew with experienced grandmaster Mikuláš Manik in the last round and took third place. The team also won awards in the categories of best Junior under 18 and player with a rating under 2000. In 4th place was player Mikuláš Manik, in 5th place was Šimon Rybka, and the main category is closed by Štefan Doci in 6th place.

The tournament was accompanied by a great atmosphere throughout the day. Between the individual rounds, there was a sense of sporting emotions, game analyses and respect between the players. The chess weekend in Prešov thus became not only a fight for titles, but also a meeting of the chess community from all over Slovakia.

The organizers evaluate the entire event very positively and believe that Prešov will continue to be associated with important chess events. The Slovak Rapid and Blitz Championships showed quality Slovak chess, excellent competition and at the same time strong interest in this sport also in the east of the country.

In Prešov, we almost managed to get the highest number of participants in history at the MSR in blitz chess, and we are currently in second place in attendance.

Thank you for your participation and I am already looking forward to seeing you and we will be happy to welcome you again in Prešov at the Slovak Amateur Championship 2026 (10.-13.9.2026).
